Yogi minister Bhupendra Chaudhary likely to be new UP BJP chief | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh minister Bhupendra Chaudhary is likely to be appointed the next state BJP chief.
The incumbent Swatantar Dev Singh has been made a minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led government.
Chaudhary, a Jat leader from western Uttar Pradesh, met BJP president J P Nadda late on Wednesday evening. The Jat community has influence in over 25 seats in western UP.
Also, as CM Adityanath hails from eastern Uttar Pradesh, the BJP also looks to strike a regional balance with the appointment of Chaudhary, who is from western Uttar Pradesh, as the party’s state chief.
With Chaudhary’s appointment, Uttar Pradesh will become the third state where the BJP will be headed by a Jat leader, after O P Dhankar in Haryana and Satish Poonia in Rajasthan.
Chaudhary was elected a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on June 10, 2016. He is currently minister for Panchayati Raj in the Yogi government.
A BJP leader pointed out that a powerful party organisation was critically needed for regular formation of cadre which would eventually be responsible for taking the people-centric programmes of the Centre and the state to the people and gain requisite feedback. The UP chief minister has been deputing a delegation of ministers to visit various parts of the state to gather feedback about such programmes.
