Bihar CM Nitish Kumar calls for unity among all opposition parties across India to defeat BJP in 2024 | Patna News – Times of India

PATNA: JD(U)’s de facto leader and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday called upon the party functionaries of different states to work for forging unity among opposition parties in their respective regions to ensure defeat of his former ally BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing his party’s national council meeting at the Karpoori Sabhagar here, he also said that the BJP would be routed across the country in the 2024 general election if all opposition parties give a united fight to the party which promotes hatred in the society.
Taking a jibe at the saffron party, Nitish also said the BJP considers those with it a ‘sadachari’ (people with good conduct) and those who speak against its wrong policies a ‘bhrashtachari’ (corrupt). If a ‘Brashtachari’ person returns to the BJP, he/she immediately becomes a ‘sadachari’, he said.
Responding to a media query while coming out of the national council meeting, Nitish, however, took a U-turn over his Saturday’s claim of restricting the BJP to 50 seats in the 2024 polls, saying, “We do not talk about the numbers.”
To a question, Nitish admitted he would visit Delhi to meet leaders of different parties but not reveal the schedule. He said, “Altogether seven parties are supporting the Grand Alliance government in Bihar. Of the seven parties, four’s top leaders are in Delhi. I will meet them. Besides the leaders of different parties, I will also call on the President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar,” he said.
Sources said Nitish may visit Delhi on September 5 after attending his weekly ‘Janta Ke Darbar Mein Mukhyamantri’ programme.
Addressing the meeting, JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan said a united opposition would ensure a humiliating defeat to the BJP in 2024, just like the three-party Mahagathbandhan comprising JD(U), RJD and Congress, had did in Bihar in the 2015 assembly polls. In 2015, the Mahagathbandhan, which won more than 175 seats in 243-member Bihar Assembly, had restricted the BJP to only 53 seats, despite continuous campaigning by PM Narendra Modi and BJP’s Amit Shah in the state.
Nitish also told the party leaders that he would never return towards the BJP in his lifetime. “I am telling this very emphatically that Nitish Ji told the party functionaries categorically that he would not make any alliance with the BJP in his lifetime,” K C Tyagi, JD(U) national secretary general told reporters soon after the end of the two-day national executive and council meetings here.
Around 250 delegates and senior party functionaries from 26 states and Union territories attended the national council meet, which was presided over by Lalan Singh.
To a question, Tyagi also clarified that “Nitish is not the opposition’s prime ministerial face, rather he is the face of opposition unity.”
