While talking to TOI, Malala said people have nowstarted reaching out to friends to enquire about her whereabouts in the city. She feared that if people can reach the friends of her husband, it is not too difficult for them to find her house as well. Chandigarh police, she said, has withdrawn her security cover couple of months ago by taking undertaking from her that now she has no life threat from anybody. Earlier, UT police had deployed a PCR for patrolling near her house round the clock and also attached a constable for her and her husband’s security.
Malala also said she informed the police about unknown persons enquiring about her and provided the phone numbers from which she had been getting threats at Sarangpur police station and DSP south office, however, she had not been provided any security cover so far, she said. Malala said she has changed her phone numbers five times after her marriage, but every time her phone number reached extremists in Afghanistan and she started getting threatening calls. On Sunday, Malala with her husband met a police inspector of her area and told him about threats she has been getting for last one week and the police assured her of security. Malala came to the city for studying in 2019 and met Neeraj Malik who was running a cloth shop in Sector 19. Both became friends and later fell in love with each other and finally solemnised marriage in 2020.
