3rd Assam madrassa linked to al-Qaida bulldozed after arrest of teacher | Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Wednesday demolished another madrassa linked to al-Qaida in Bongaigaon district.
This is the third madrassa in the state demolished this month by the government after police found these educational institutions were being used as hubs for terror activities.

The madrassa — Markazul Ma’arif Qariana Madrassa — a two-storey building was located at Kabaitari.

The district administration is using as many as eight bulldozers to raze down the structure.
Earlier on Friday, police arrested one of the teachers of the madrassa, Mufti Hafizur Rahman who allegedly was a member of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).
On Tuesday, police raided the madrassa along with Mufti and found several objectionable items and literature. Mufti Hafizur Rahman joined the madrasa in 2018 as a teacher.
The district disaster management authorities on Tuesday ordered the demolition of the madrassa on the grounds that it does not possess the necessary and essential documents to carry out multipurpose activities in a single campus with multiple buildings with an unspecified number of persons and it had insufficient provisions to mitigate any kind of possible disaster while the structures also appeared in a hazardous condition.
About 200 students staying in the madrassa were evacuated on Tuesday by the district authorities.
