3 Indians killed in road accident in Canada's Brampton, 1 arrested

Three Indians were killed in a car crash involving two vehicles in Canada’s Brampton earlier this week, Canadian media reported. According to reports, the car crash took place in the wee hours of Thursday, which police suspect to be linked to a street race.

The Indians killed in the accident were identified as Reetik Chhabra, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday that day, his brother Rohan Chhabra (22), and their friend Gaurav Fasge (24), Global News reported.

According to the Peel Regional Police, cops arrived at the scene and located three young adult males who were declared dead at the accident site. The crash took place at around 1:30 am on Bovaird Drive near Chinguacousy Road.

Police found the second vehicle abandoned at a nearby gas station. The exact circumstances of the crash are still being investigated, CBC News reported.

“Speeds were a major factor here. For the (second) vehicle to be in the condition that it’s in, it would have been travelling at an unacceptably high rate of speed,” a cop was quoted as saying by CBC News.

The driver of the second vehicle fled the accident spot, but was later taken into custody.

A GoFundMe page has been started by a cousin of the brothers killed in the accident to help raise money to transport the bodies of all three men back to India.

“Gaurav’s approx. expenses for transferring the body to India would be around $12,000 and the funeral cost for Reetik and Rohan would be approx. $16,000 ($8,000 each). We have raised the Goal to $65,000 approx, so that the remaining amount would go to their parents,” Himanshu Chaudhary, victims’ cousin informed.
